Non-Profit Organizations and Other Resources for San Francisco Tenants

Education and access to information are the best protection for tenants. There are a number of non-profits that provide legal counseling for tenants. The San Francisco Tenant’s Union and Housing Rights Committee provide walk-in counseling hours to tenants. They can help you write or respond to a letter from your landlord or answer questions about your situation.

If you have been served an eviction lawsuit you need to get help right away. In San Francisco tenants have a right to free legal representation in defense of evictions. The Eviction Defense Collaborative provides eviction defense services. As does Legal Assistance to the Elderly. Think your landlord is doing something illegal? Want a building inspector to look at your apartment? These resources may be able to help or at least get you started.
